Nebularis

The devourer

“We must not fear confrontation… From chaos, we create the stars.”

Dhera

She was made of living energy, like the first breath that gives shape to the world. Born from the same origin as her sister, she chose a different path: to draw closer to creation rather than observe it from afar. Where Nebularis saw humans as fleeting sparks, Dhera saw potential.

When she manifested, her form resembled a pulsing light — warm and intense, like a newly born star. There was firmness in her gaze, but also compassion. Not a fragile kind of compassion, but the compassion of one who believes that even the most fragile beings can rise again.

She did not shape humans in order to control them. She sought to preserve what made them unique: their emotions, their choices, and their ability to change their own destiny. While her sister created wraiths, Dhera protected the flames still burning in human hearts. Among all mortals, some drew her attention more than others — people who carried ancient forces within them and whose paths remained undefined. Gabriel was one of them.

When she watched him, Dhera saw more than a boy facing his own destiny. She saw the possibility of balance — someone capable of resisting the darkness without losing what made him human. And so, even from afar, she watched over him. Not as a distant goddess, but as a silent guardian of the hope he might one day represent.

Nebularis

Born between the radiance of the stars and the silence of the void, she carried the cold beauty of the cosmos and the distance of something that had never truly belonged to the mortal world. She rarely revealed herself in full.

When she manifested, she appeared wrapped in luminous mists, like a constellation in motion. Her eyes possessed the depth of infinite space, observing humanity with an almost impersonal curiosity. To her, humans were brief sparks of existence: intense, fragile, and above all, fleeting.

Unlike her sister, Nebularis was not moved by their stories or hopes. She saw humanity as mouldable matter, something that could be altered to serve a greater purpose. It was from this vision that the wraiths were born.

By touching certain humans, she stripped away what made them fully alive: their emotions, their deepest memories, their inner light. What remained were obedient shadows — fragments of people who wandered through the world without a will of their own.

The protagonist

Gabriel Piacentino, 13.

He grew up in a simple house at the top of a mountain he could not descend, where time seemed to move more slowly. His grandmother was all he knew as family — she taught him how to walk, how to listen to the silence of the night, and how to observe the world as though every detail concealed a story.

His father, mother, sister and grandfather existed only in her stories, told on quiet nights when the wind passed through the windows. He grew up wondering whether he had inherited something from each of them: a trait, an impulse, a way of feeling the world.

Then his grandmother vanished, leaving a note saying he was ready, and a key that opens a hidden path out of the mountain. The journey begins without a sword. He has to free the first spirit before he can fight at all.

The family

He never met them. He inherited them anyway.

To protect the Legacy of Light, each of them left on a separate mission and was transformed by Dhera into an elemental spirit. Freeing one is how Gabriel meets his own family for the first time.
